There are 23 species of birds in this family. They are crow-like birds found in Australia, the Indo-Pacific region, and Southern Asia. There are two smaller subfamilies in this family.
Artaminae are the woodswallows. They are dull in color and catch insects while in flight. They have sturdy bills; long, pointed wings; and unlike most passerine birds, can soar!
The second subfamily, the Cracticinae, includes the Australian magpie, the butcherbirds, and the currawongs. They are black and white or gray and white and have distinct and beautiful songs.
